How to Change a Pool Light

Swimming pools are equipped with underwater lights, and just like any other light, these lights stop working after a span of time. However, there is no need to cut the water level to replace the bulb. You could take out the light housing from the side of the pool, pull the fixture, and then change the bulb.

Part 1: Removing the pool light fixture

Removing the pool light fixture

·       Switch off the breaker that connects to the pool.

·       Flip the pool lights to make sure that it isn’t receiving electrical power.

·       Carefully remove the screw on the top of the fixture and put it safely inside your shirt pocket.

·       Pull the fixture away with the help of a flat-head screwdriver.

·       Slowly draw the fixture out and carefully place it on the concrete surface.

Part 2: Replacing the light bulb

Replacing the light bulb

·       First, remove the cover & then the lens from the light fixture and put it in a safe place.

·       Take a light bulb similar to the old one. You can take help from your pool’s manual book to check what sort of bulb the fixture requires.

·       Once the lens is taken away, you’ll see the bulb. Twist it anti-clockwise to unscrew it. Grab the new bulb with the help of a towel and place it in the center of the fixture, and twist it in a clockwise direction.

·       Turn the power ON (for 2-3 seconds) to check whether it works.

Part 3: Reinstalling the pool light fixture

Reinstalling to pool light fixture

·       After placing the new bulb, fix the gasket and the lens back to the same place. While you are doing it, use the edge of your towel to dry any water that remains in the fixture.

·       Tighten all the screws back to their place. If you are dealing with a newer model of the pool that has no screws, then make sure that the tabs are firmly pushed.

·       It’s time to place the fixture back to its niche carefully. Before you insert it, wrap the coil 2-3 times around the base.

·       Turn ON the power button once the circuits are carefully connected.

Be Careful

Always change the light when you are sure that the circuit is disconnected. You could get hurt if the circuit is still active. After replacing the bulb, don’t drop or bump it as the bulb is fragile and might break. For more details on how to change a pool light, contact Amoray Lighting.
